The Effects of Vibration on Pain and Anxiety during Local Anesthesia Administration
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: Local anesthesia (LA) is essential for most oral and maxillofacial procedures. It is important that clinicians obtain adequate pain control during not only dental treatments but also LA injection. Materials and methods: This study evaluated the effects of vibration on pain and anxiety levels during LA injection in 50 patients using a visual analog scale (VAS) and Spielberger’s State–Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Results: The VAS and STAI scores for the vibration group were significantly lower than those for the control group (p < 0.001). Conclusion: During LA injection, vibration is a useful technique that reduces pain without causing anxiety.

Assessment of the effectiveness of local anesthesia before thyroid fine needle biopsy considering the size of the nodule
Background: Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is usually used to distinguish the malignant and benign nodules. Applying a biopsy needle evokes a sense of fear and pain in the patients. Although some studies refute the usefulness of local anesthesia (LA) prior to fine needle aspiration biopsy, it is still debatable. This prospective cross-sectional study intended to evaluate the effect of LA ...
متن کاملComparison of Two Standard Scales for Pain Perception during Local Anesthetic Injection in Children
Background and Aim: Local anesthetic injection is among the most anxiety-provoking procedures in children. Some scales are currently available to quantify the level of pain experienced based on the child’s behavior. The purpose of this study was to compare two commonly used pain scales. Materials and Methods: This split-mouth study was conducted on 49 healthy children aged 3.5 to 9 years who n...
متن کاملComparative evaluation of pain perception by vibrating needle (VibrajectTM) and conventional syringe anesthesia during various dental procedures in pediatric patients: A short study
Background: One of the most important and challenging aspects of behavior management in children during dental treatment is pain control. Fear related behavior has long been recognized as the most difficult aspect of patient management and can be a barrier to good care. Administration of local anesthesia may evoke anxiety not only in the patients but also in the clinicians. Although local anest...
متن کاملPost laparoscopic pain control using local anesthesia through laparoscopic ports
Introduction: Although patients do not experience sever pain after laparoscopic surgery, most of them experience acute or chronic pain afterward. While conventional pain killers including NSAID and narcotics in laparoscopic surgery have specific side effects, their application is inevitable. This study compares the efficacy of local anesthetic drugs and conventional pain killers in post-operati...
متن کاملEffect of Heated Local Anesthetic on Pain Perception upon Oral injection
Background and aim: Pain during injection of local anesthesia causes fear and anxiety in many patients that could be a reason why patients avoid regular dental treatment. Previous studies have reported the effect of warming anesthetic solutions in various areas such as skin, plastic surgery, and cataract surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of warming anesthetic solutio...
